EQUENTO® CEREALS
A new standard in wireworm and disease protection
Wireworms are among the most economically damaging early-season pests facing Western Canadian cereal growers. They're difficult to detect, persistent in the soil for several years, and capable of causing significant stand loss and yield reductions.
For the 2026 season, Syngenta launched a new solution for wireworms in Western Canada: Equento® Cereals, a seed treatment that takes wireworm control to a new level.
Equento Cereals is the first cereal seed treatment in Western Canada to deliver both contact and systemic activity against wireworms — and that distinction matters. Its contact activity, powered by PLINAZOLIN® technology, kills wireworms as they come into contact with the treated seed, stopping feeding fast. Meanwhile, the systemic activity of thiamethoxam guards the growing seedling from stem feeding and later-season pressure, helping break the wireworm lifecycle. Together, these two complementary modes of action provide double defense from seeding through stand establishment.
PLINAZOLIN technology is a novel active ingredient developed by Syngenta with a unique Group 30 mode of action — the only one of its kind registered for wireworm control. Research conducted by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), in partnership with Syngenta, showed the commercial rate of PLINAZOLIN technology provided a 91% reduction in wireworms compared to the untreated check. Because Equento Cereals is a true mortality product, it doesn't just suppress wireworm feeding in the current season, it helps reduce populations for the following year as well.
Beyond wireworm control, Equento Cereals delivers comprehensive early-season disease protection through four proven fungicide active ingredients: difenoconazole (Group 3), sedaxane (Group 7), metalaxyl-M and S-isomer (Group 4), and fludioxonil (Group 12). This fungicide package provides the same broad-spectrum protection against seed- and soil-borne diseases like Pythium, Fusarium, and Rhizoctonia that growers have come to rely on from Cruiser® Vibrance® Quattro — now with the added power of PLINAZOLIN technology built in.
Equento Cereals also offers the added benefits of Vigor Trigger™ for faster, more vigorous emergence in cool early-season conditions, and Rooting Power® for larger, more robust root systems that build yield potential from the ground up. It is registered for use on wheat (spring, winter, and durum), barley, oats, rye, and triticale, and is available in convenient co-pack packaging with two size options.
